1982 911SC build (barn to street)

Hey Fellas,

I've been looking for an affordable project for a while and finally found this 1982 911 about a month ago in Arkansas. It was literally a barn type find, although I didn't find it. A fellow Pelican did and I purchased from him and shipped it to CA. It's a roll of the dice, as the car doesn't run, but I had him turn the motor to at least confirm that it wasn't locked up.

The plan is to clean it up, get it running and have a fun cruiser. I have modified every car I have owned since 16, so it will definitely be a hot rod/outlaw.

Welcome and congrats on the beautiful SC. Hard to tell from the limited pictures but it looks to be in very nice condition. Keep us posted on your progress.

The bath did wonders. Really upped resale.

Clean the fuel system including the CIS head and injectors. Will probably run assuming no major mechanical issues. Go slowly and you will be rewarded.

It's really decent. The paint is fine but has a blemish here and there like any car of this age. Interior needs some work, which is great. I actually prefer a couple race seats and a roll bar. Miles appear to only be 140k unless the odometer is busted. We'll see!

Gas tank has been pulled. The line that runs to the fuel pump was completely clogged. I let the tank sit in vinegar for 3 days and it looks pretty decent. My 22mm allen arrives tomorrow so I can pull strainer screen and clean. I'll clean the bay a little bit tonight and probably paint the tank black unless the area around the screen is too far gone. I really want to avoid buying a new gas tank since im in this one $30 in vinegar and $15 for the allen already

I love seeing these cars get back on the street - nice purchase!

Those rear wheels look wider than standard 7" Fuchs. Sunroof on this car?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Send the allen wrench back and hit the hardware store for a large bolt and double nut set up to remove the tank screen.

There is rubber seal on the screen so you may need to order a new unit as it all comes in one piece.

I tried. Home Depot and Lowes don't have anything larger than 5/8 and I needed a 7/8 head. Buying the tool I'll never use again was a last resort

Pulled the plug and it's not awful. Scrubbed the tank a bit too. The forward compartment in this vehicle is cleaning up pretty well so I think in going to bite the bullet and buy a new tank just because.

X6 in the front x7 in the rear. They are for sale. And yes, a sunroof car.

Not much to report. Put the car on jack stands tonight so I can get a better look at everything. Picking up a new gas tank tomorrow night.

The other side of the garage. Barely fits!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but if that fuel line was clogged most likely your cis system will be also. Fuel sitting in the fuel distributer can cause it to get rusty and clogged up. Warm up regulator, same issue. Good luck it's a fine looking car. I always liked Guards red.

If dropping the motor do yourself a BIG favor and replace the tunnel fuel lines. There may be a DIY on it but the jist is to attach a wire to the transmission end, pull from the front, and then pull the new lines in front to back. GL!

Curious to hear if you replaced the fuel tank, and if so what did you buy?

Have you tested the pump or flushed the full system?
