Not So OT - Illinois-area track events
Next July or August, I'd like to take the 911 back to Chicago, and participate in a D.E. with my older brother. Can any of you Midwesterners suggest a group or event that would be good for this? I've done track events in California, but he's only driven an old Mercedes of his on some parade laps at Road America, so he'd be considered a beginner, I guess. (Although we both raced karts as kids.)
Road America would be great, but I know there are some other tracks (Gingerman, Blackhawk Farms) in that area. Any advice on where I should start looking? ------------------ Jack Olsen My Rennlist page • My Pelican Gallery page • My Porsche Owners Gallery page |
Jack,
I'd be glad to help you with events at Gingerman and Grattan. See the e-mail I just sent you. Will ------------------ '87 Carrera Coupe '97 993 Carrera S '96 BMW R1100RT |

Jack,
Are you still planning an Illinois trip? |
Hey Jack - let me know what event you choose. I'd like to come up and run with you guys.
Putnam park is probably too far out (30mi East of Indy) but worth a consideration if nothing else will coordinate with your schedule. |
Jack,
Hope you make it to Chicago. Blackhawk is a really fun track. We have an event there on August 14 (Wednesday). RA is great and fast as we all know. Nordstern (Minneapolis) is hosting a two-day DE on August 22 and 23. You also have the club raced at RA over labor day with a two-day DE. Let us know what you decide. |
Actually, my plans changed, and my brother came out here instead of me bringing the car to him. We ran two days at Thunderhill and (having never driven a 911 or driven on a track) he was the fastest driver in the beginner group by the end of the first day. (I wish it had come that easily to me!)
Here I am showing him how to lift a front tire in a high speed turn. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/MaleBonding.jpg However, we had such a great time that a trip east at some point in the future is pretty likely. It'll just be a while, I think. If/when I do it, I'll give you guys plenty of notice. We can put together a midwestern Pelicanite event. After all, I was born and bred in Illinois. :) |
