antenna removal

Whats the easiest way to remove the antenna from a 75 911? Its on the driver side by the fuel door. Do I have to take the driver door off for this?? There has to be an easier way

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of. I want to remove mine and patch it up as well. What were the engineers thinking!?!

They moved it to the right side in '84 I believe, easy peasy access. Sorry, not trying to be a dick but they eventually realized the folly. Good luck.

If you're going to patch the hole in the fender, then remove the fender, not the door. You'll have to remove the fender anyway, to patch the hole properly.

Not true. Manual antennas were located on the left, power antennas were on the right. At some point the power antenna may have become standard but Porsche never moved the antenna because "they eventually realized the folly."

I think it depended on electric vs manual in the earlier cars. Manual is left electric required a bigger unit so right side. I recall being able to see part of the base through the drivers footwell when I was removing stereo components.

Actually I was planning on patching it the 'wrong way'......i bought the $10 piece of chrome off ebay with a rubber gasket to just close it up. I was hoping that was going to be my easy fix, but now that the door has to come off im not so excited about the project anymore. I don't mind taking the door off as much as aligning it properly when putting it back on thats going to be a pain.

If you remove the door the right way, by pulling the pins in the hinges, there is no realignment. That requires some special tools, so you may be better off having some shop that is better equipped do it for you. It's doesn't take much time to pull a door.

Why patch? There was a factory metal plug that was made for this reason.
Found mine on ebay that worked perfect and looks "correct".
Another option would be just to find a rubber plug that fits..Patching and painting seems like a lot of work just to fill the hole.

This was what I did...pretty simple just be careful and have a extra set of hands to help with lifting the door off and back on..

Another thread said the plugs used on the inside of the door for the back of the mirror will work if you are OK with black.

Search the web for a Hirschmann Antenna delete/plug/cap. That was the company that made the antennas, and the plugs are factory correct. I don't think our sponsor carries them.

Yes thats what I got off eBay. Small chrome piece of metal already curved to fit the fender curves and comes with rubber gaskets.
