Using a European Car Radio in the US
Perhaps this has been answered authoritatively somewhere here, but I can't find it. I am thinking of bringing a European radio into the US for my 911. It does not have a way to switch from European frequencies to US ones. However, some of what I read on the web says this will make no difference with respect to FM (although US radios in Europe cause a problem), and only a minor problem with respect to AM as a European radio gets very close to AM frequencies.
Does anyone know if this is true? Can you point me to someplace that gives a detailed explanation? Thank you for your help! This is such a vast repository of collected knowledge and wisdom! Cordially, Greg

No experience here either, but looking at google (FM broadcast band), the overall FM band is essentially the same. The channel freqs should be the similar, but I am not sure about the bandwidth (fidelity) devoted to each channel. An interesting question, for radio geeks anyway.

I have a '77 with the original European radio and I get FM and AM just fine. I do not believe it gets the entire upper or lower end of the band though I've never needed that portion for my stations. YMMV.

When i bought my Mini (from Germany) it had the European head unit still. It received FM just fine. The only thing i noticed was the digital frequency readout showed each tenth - ex. 105.1, 105.2, 105.3 ..... whereas here in the states we only do the odd tenths. ex. 105.1, 105.3, 105.5

If it's analogue you won't have any issues. If it's digital ensure it will do the odd frequencies rather than the evens (.1 rather than .2)

The older Euro radios only tended to cover up to around FM 104, which wasn't adequate to cover all the US band. No idea what radio you are looking at...
