I vaguely remember somewhere hearing that you're supposed to retorque the Allen-head bolts that fasten the axles to the CV joints after something like 1,000 miles, but I can't find any reference to it in my service manuals. Anybody know if I should take the time to do the retorquing?

I torqued mine again after 500 miles following repacking my cv joints. I've just re-assembled them again after having the trailing arms out. I'll do the same this time as I'd rather not experience what happens when they come loose. BTW, the bolts didn't move at all after 500 miles.

I start with new CV bolts. I torque to spec, then drive to allow any "setting". Finally I retorque and connect "saftey wire" to predrilled bolts. Bulletprof IMHO

I have yet to do a 915 trans, experience limited to 901s....but the "whippy" washers need to be new as well....

Damn! That's a good idea--drilling them for safety wire. Wish I'd thought of that, which is dumb since I deal with safety wire on airplanes often enough. Other than that, eveything but the axles themselves is new--CVs, bolts, washers, grease...

Schnorr washers that get replaced every other installation, not 'wave' washers ... are what CV-joint Allen bolts get, and it is not necessary to retorque them!
