901 tranny in '73
What do I need to do to put a 901 tranny in a 1973 911? I think I've got the mounting to the engine figured out (Patrick clutch package), but I don't know if the shifter in the '73 (designed for the 915 transmission) will work with the 901?
Has anyone done this? I like the 901 because of its shift pattern. Thanks! |

well i have a 901 trans in my 73 backed up by my 2.4. it was like it when i bought it. it has the older style shifter, it bolts right into existing bolts, it doesnt look like it was buggered up to fit. as far as what else you need you've got me, i dont know if i have a push or pull tranny so i dont have my clutch cable hooked up yet. the stoddard catalog has an excellent picture of it i suggest you pick up there catalog.

I don't think you even have to change the clutch if you use a '70 or '71 911 transmission. This is the same gearbox with the "cool" shift pattern as the 901 but with a pull clutch like the '72 and later.
Otherwise ('69 or earlier 901) you just needed a '69 or earlier flywheel and clutch. What was so special about what Patrick sold you? The only time you need somthing special is for a 3.0 or later engine with a '69 or earlier trans. |
