Bilstein Rear Shock Bushing / Rubber Spacer

So I bought some new rear green bilsteins. The rubber bushings/bump stops are different then the ones on my old shocks. I took the old ones and slid them down the threaded shaft on the new shocks and bolted them in. It appears the threaded shaft is too long and the nut bottomed out before the shock was tight.

Pics?

Should look like this:

The sheet metal of the shock tower goes between the two rubber pieces you can see outside of the dust cover can. The bump stop should be a separate piece inside the can and not shown in that photo.

^Correct. You need to hold the threaded shaft with a wrench while tightening the bolt to torque spec. If you don't hold the threaded shaft, it will spin. You shouldn't be using any old parts on the rear shocks that I can remember.

Ok I will look when I get home. Maybe the new rubber pieces were just stuck together and so much fatter that I mistook them for a different style than what my car previously had. Thanks for the info. I'm gone for 2-3 more days.
