All kinds of confused about wheels and tires. 89 930

Hello.
I was wondering if you guys could help me out. Recently I got a 89 930 turbo coupe and am super confused about wheel and tire options. The car came with 16" fuchs knock-offs and a new set of tires. I would like to know where can I get different tires for the car in the future. Tire rack does not list anything besides track tires and I have no idea where to look next. Ideally I would like to get something like RE 11s. Do they make them for this size rim. I am on the look out for original fuchs.

Alternatively, apparently, I can get 17" from Braid. They seem nice and are not made of Chineseum. There seems to be more tire choice there. Should I do this? Will it effect handling as there is less sidewall. Should I get them in different width.

Anyways. Thank you.

The rear size is the hang up. Bridgestone was making the 245/45-16 in RE11 for a while, but has apparently stopped. The only other street tire I've seen is Michelin Pilot MXX3, which are Porsche N spec. https://www.cokertire.com/tires/michelin-sx-mxx3-n2-tires.html

Thank you. I did some more research and searched tire rack by tire size. Are these not them https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Bridgestone&tireModel=Potenza+RE-11&partnum=445WR6RE11V2&i1_Qty=2

As you've seen above, tire options are limited in the 245/45-16 size, but are far more plentiful in the 225/50-16 size. Your turbo likely came stock with 16x7 front wheels and 16x9 rear wheels -- older turbos ran 16x8 rear wheels with (far more readily available) 225/50-16 rear tires (16x8 wheels also work fine with the 245/45-16 size you're currently running). Since much of the added width in a 16x9 sits inside of the hub, 16x8 wheels fill out your rear fenders nearly as well as 16x9s.

So, if you're interested in good tire selection and want to stick with 16" wheels, I'd suggest considering 16x8 fuchs for the rear (and, regardless, going with 16x7 fuchs up front)

"Vintage" tires are costly, and not exactly on the cutting edge, and few want to put narrower tires in the back of their 930. This is the main reason people move to 17" wheels.

There are several 17" Fuch replicas of varying quality, look, and cost. A search will turn up much: Euromeister, Rota, Braid, Zuffenhaus...

For what it's worth, you can fit 11" wheels back there...I'm running 9"/11" with 245/275 tires front/rear, though I used to have 275/315 with minimal rubbing...I'm contemplating going narrower, since this car doesn't race anymore. The only time I see the limits of tire adhesion are during emergencies...though I'm loathe to give up any rubber in those times of panic.

Come over to out turbo forum - there are several wheel and tire threads there. There are many wheel choices in 17 and 18 inch sizes for the 930. Not much in 16 any more.

Check out the existing threads and see the various brands and sizes - nice eye candy if you like seeing others' 930!

Tires

A few in the 16" are available I went with the 245 45 16 Toyo Proxes T1R and at 130 each they are affordable just had to find the local distributor and they were in hand in one day
If your looking for some 17" I can hook you up on those with 225 50 and 255 40 17"

no spacers and they fit like a glove

Not exactly the answer you're looking for, but the lack of rear tire availability is exactly why many of us have "upgraded" to 17" (and sometimes 18") wheels. Or, put a 245 tire on the rear with a 50 aspect ratio, if you want to stick with 16x9 rear wheels.

Hello. I think I will have to do some research as to what the aspect ratio of a tyre is.

Also I did find re11s on tyre rack.

Great tool for playing around:

https://tiresize.com/comparison/

I believe the stock size for an '89 930 was 205/55 and 225/50, 16x7" up front, 16x9" in the rear.

The RE11 in 225/50-16 should work fine on your existing 7" front rim.
