Do any of you have one of those 4-post, electric car hoists in your well-equipped garages?
They are advertised in some car hobby mags as being a great storage solution. You can have one car on top, while another parks below. Would also be great for maintainence, of course. I know a 4 car garage would be the answer, but I'm not into home renovations! ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website "If it ain't broke...we'll help you fix it 'til it is!" |

I've looked at them, but most need a 10 foot ceiling. My garage doesn't have that, or I'd probably buy one.

I have had an Eagle Brand 4 post lift for about 6 years now. Love it. Great support including sending me 'updates' when they made minor changes. Good for working on car in addition to storage.
My ceiling is about 10'-6" which allows raising a 911 full height. |

Do any of the 4 post lifts have the option for a arm lift vs a drive on? I'd love to put one in my garage but I want something I can lift the car on the body and take the tires off.

Hey dad911,
Do you have a contact (website?) for the Eagle lift? Sounds like the ticket for my garage, which has a high enough ceiling. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website "If it ain't broke...we'll help you fix it 'til it is!" |

Thanx Tim!
I think a lift will be the perfect solution to my garage space problem. The Porsches and m/c's should now be able to co-exist in peace! ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website "If it ain't broke...we'll help you fix it 'til it is!" |

If anyone is local to Northern Califonia, this local (Sacramento) repair shop has quite a few brand new lifts for sale.

Robert,
I use small jacks to lift chassis right off ramps of 4 Post Eagle Lift. Great for brakes tires & suspension work. I also use a beam between the ramps if I need jack/support something in center of car. Eagle site: http://www.eagleequip.com/index.htm |

Here is an example. Unfortunately, this project has been tying up my lift for way too long......

Great picture of the lift in action, dad911.
With a bit of jury-rigging, you could even use the lift for work on m/c's. I've sent off an e-mail to Eagle for more info on all the models. BTW...I was slightly surprised at how reasonably priced these units are. ------------------ '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA The Blue Bomber's Website "If it ain't broke...we'll help you fix it 'til it is!" |

Doug - When I bought lift, they were also throwing in waste oil drain & drip pans that fit in channel between ramps.
The only project that I have done that the ramps get in the way is engine removal/install. To remove engine, I put car on lift, disconnect everything but trans & engine mount, roll car back and use jacks. By the way, I have found the motorcycle/ATV jacks that Cosco & Sams sell locally ($99)are easier to balance engine on. -Alan |

I looked long and hard at the 4-post lifts that are available. I would only consider one that had everything totally enclosed in the post. These lifts, what ever the brand seemed to be much more substantial than the "Eagle" type lifts. There are a lot of them out there advertised on the internet.
The 4-post seem to me, to be better if you are going to park something for some time. They are somewhat limited for having lots of access to do quick repair work. There are a couple of styles of two posts hoists. One of them would be more suitable for low ceiling garages, if that is your problem. There are even sissor types that are very convenient to set up. Good luck, David Duffield |

Doug, There is a company in Calgary that sells a four post lift. The fellows name is David Free and his company is Speciality Auto Group (403)256-6868. The hoist is $5400 Can. plus options. I think the hoist brand is Doublepark. Michael

Much appreciated, Michael. "Cow-Town" is just a 12 hour drive (in the Summer) from my home base. Will contact them.

Slightly different approach.
Went to the "Retromobile" show in Brussels this Sunday, very nice, and there was a stand there demonstrating a side-hoist (driven with a portable electric drill bit!) See it at http://www.liqui-technik.com Aside from the obvious disadvantages such as not being able to drop an engine with this system, does any one have any experience with such systems? The cost is abt. US$ 670- |
