'78 3.0SC With SSIs - What muffler?

Hi all,

My 3.0 has Dansk SSIs and a 2 in 1 out muffler, but I'm looking for something louder and more obnoxious....from looking through various options it seems pretty limited for the 3.0 but there is loads of choice for the 2.7....

I really like the rally or sport 2 in 2 out pipes....

question is, will a 2.7 2-in 2-out fit my SC?

Thanks in advance.

I have a M&K 2 in 2 out and had to cut some metal out of the lower valance to mount on the right side and the 2 out was too loud for my taste so I had to cap one side. Some people cap the right side inside the engine bay so they don't have to remove any metal thus making it a 2 in 1 out. I hear dansik? sport is another nice option but I have neverr used one of those personally.

My SC...

I tried an M&K 2/2, too loud very bad drone below 3k. I next tried a factory '74 2/1, very nice, but a bit too quiet. Next was an M&K 2/1, ah, just right! It has nearly the same high rpm snarl as the 2/2, but almost no drone below 3k rpms.

Yes. SSI heat exchangers are replicas of the OEM heat exchanges used prior to 1975, only made out of stainless steel.

EDIT:
I guess I should add to what I'm saying above, anything that was made to fit a 2.7 with 2 inlets will fit this exhaust. Try a pea shooter sport dansk muffler. The ones with 2 pipes about a foot apart from each other. It's loud, but won't drone.

I run a Bursch BX 1113 (basically glasspacks) on my backdated SC. It's a lightweight and inexpensive exhaust that's louder and snortier than a sport muffler but without the drone of the 2out style cans.

I have an M&K 2 in 1 out that was on my SC with SSIs. It was too loud for me so I went with OEM 2-1. I would sell the M&K if you are interested.

Yup. I even had guys stop me to tell me they loved the sound. I guess I am just getting too old for that much loud. Sounds awesome but.... not for me.

Thanks All,

Really appreciate the feedback. Will check out your recommendations. and hopefully not be making another post in a few weeks asking "what's a quiet muffler for a 3.0SC With SSIs!"

I have SSIs with dual out Dansk mufflers. Sounds great but my hearing is improving as I age. So now it seems very loud. I bought a cap from Ben to block one side and reduce the dB when in town. If I started out now, I would probably go single out although I prefer the balanced look.

Just had SSI's installed on my 80 SC and I went with the Bursch Sport muffler, 2 in, 1 out. I love the sound and would recommend this setup.

I have a 79 SC with SSI's and Dansk Sport muffler 2 in, 1 out. Sounds great, but is still a little loud. I don't drive this car if I have to leave before 8am in the morning.
