5 speed 915 box in a 73 2.4T, driveaxle trouble...

Hello !

Just changed a 4 speed 915 into a 5 speed 915/62 and now the driveaxles will not fit...
The car is a 73 2.4 t.

Will the driveaxle from a SC fit ?

Erlend from Norway

See if you can use the stub axels from the 4 speed on the 5 speed. Most likely the 4 speed has different splines and therefore will not fit. The SC has different CVJ's than your '73. Do a serach on the forum, you will most likely find a solution that will work.

Not that it may help answer your question..but the 5 speed transmission output flanges did not change when the 5th speed was added.

4 speed transmissions have the same case as a 5 speed..the 5th speed is just not installed inside.

You have a ROW 1982/1983 SC transmission..see if the 1973 output flanges will swap over?

Didn't the 73 have a mechanical speedo, if so you will have to address that I'm pretty sure?

The newer 915s, since '75 IIRC, went to the fine spline drive flanges. The originals are coarse spline.

You can use later 6 bolt CVs and axles, but you will also have to change out the stub axles to match.

There are 108mm fine spline drive flanges which can be used with your present CVs and axles. Those were used on Turbos and later Carreras. They may be hard to find however.

Another option, maybe not the easiest, is to swap the differentials between the transmissions.
