SSI vs -74 Headers: Difference?
Besides being stainless, what are the differences between the two? Would headers from a 74 911 fit a 3.0?
I vaguely recall running into a guy with a 3.2 with 74 headers on his motor... Thanks. |
Yes, they will fit.
But the SSI's are a little better power-wise. The right hand exchanger is optimized in it's pipe lengths. The factory unit compromised slightly to make them more "technician-friendly" and as a result, they aren't truly equal length on the right side like the SSI's. Also, the SSI's are completely stainless, (not just the inner pipes like on the factory units.) and I believe are made from a higher grade. |
Tyson,
I assume the oil line will have to be modified as well, correct? And what in HP is the difference (in HP) between the factory 74 headers and the SSI (due to the factory compromise) would you say? I'm not looking for pretty stainless looks, and I can't drive my car when it rains (need new seals) nor in the snow, so the 74 factory units may be a good option. That is until I my girlfriend gets really genereous :) Thanks. .............I just realize there is a closely related topic running. Oh well, the title here is more specific ;) |
