Engine Rebuild Shops - Houston, Texas

Well - I think it's time.

Car is an 84 3.2. It's burning a lot of oil (about a quart every 500 miles), and like most 911's, it leaks. It had about 135000 miles on the odometer before it stopped working for the PO. I've put another 5 k on the car in the last few years. But, I think I want to have the engine pulled and resealed, at least do a top end, maybe some other work here and there.

The question is who? The only shop I've used for the car (besides work I've done myself) is Rennsport in Sealy. I know Warren is a capable mechanic, but it sure is a pain to get all the way out to their shop.

Anyone have any other advice?

Thanks,

Ken

I'm in same boat as you. I take my car to Warren and he does great work, but it sure is a production to get it to Sealy, have a friend pick me up, etc. Especially since there are no rental car agencies in Sealy.

Might be worth at least talking to Motorwerks. I can't attest to their abilities, but I recently attended a Lone Star PCA event there and the shop was clean and looked nice.

I had not heard of Motorwerks. I think I'd like to hear from others that have used them for vintage 911 work before I go see them.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm also going to go talk to European Auto Techniks and Swiss Garage.

So - it's just Warren now you know. We lost Mike in Sept of 2015.

I reached out to someone else I know that has multiple 911's, and he's telling me Warren is still the man.

Knightrace is currently building my engine. He is not based out of Houston, although i believe he has a shop there.

Top notch, knowledgeable guy. Highly recommended.

I used to live down the road a bit from Motorwerks and took my AMG there once when I had it. It's not a bad shop or anything, but they aren't particularly specialized in Porsche - and their prices were a bit high.

Recommend finding someone specialized and probably outside of town. Just my 2 cents!

Probably worth talking to Jordan over at Modern Aircooled. They have some pretty cool stuff going on there.

Or take a drive down to San Antonio and go to Jones autoworkes.
Among the best in the country, been working on Porsches since the 60's.

Went by modern aircooled. Their shop is really small. It didn't look like the direction I wanted to go. Would like to see if anyone chimes in on work they have done.

I'll have to venture up to European Auto Techniks next.

The only two shops that have ever worked on my 911 are Jones Autowerke in San Antonio and Rennsport in Sealy. Highly recommend both as others in this thread have done. Sorry, can't help you with recommending any other shops.
