Batteries
There seems to something missing, like a battery and a positive cable. Secondary battery? My shop manuals are not here yet.
![]() What about this battery? This looks completely bogus. ![]() While I'm at it, this surface rust will be addressed ![]()

Your 911 originally had 2 batteries. It has been coverted to a single battery and, in your case, a light weight battery. This is common. The "search" function will provide you with more information than you likely need or want.

On second look, make sure those cables on the passenger side are not running to anything.

The cable in your photo is the positive cable, and it would connect to to the positive cable on the driver's side, unless it has been isolated. The stud shown above the box is for the ground cable. The early cars used two 12 volt batteries wired in parallel, but many have converted to a single, more powerful, 12 volt battery as replacing the early ones can be extremely expensive.

Your previous owner switched from the original two battery set-up to a single Braid battery ( which is supposed to be an excellent battery). However, a good friend of mine has kept the original two battery set-up and has had great luck with them using a battery maintainer in the winter storage season. If it's working, leave it be till theaters needs replacement then decide which way you want to proceed. Supposedly the dual battery system was designed with weight distribution in mind. Another option is to move the battery into the 'smugglers box' if your car is not air conditioned.

The two batteries like others said had weight distributing in mind ....
You may be better suited to use the passenger side as far as weight goes .... The "custom install w the wood wedges ... that would drive me nuts ... |

The two battery system solved a problem Porsche encountered during high cross winds. Earlier models had lead weights there to solve the problem. My advice is don't think you are smarter than Porsche engineers, put the two batteries back.

Miata batteries
I agree. I have 2 Miata size batteries in my 1973 and they put weight where it belongs and last a loooong time.

The consensus seems to be along the lines I have been thinking. In this case, put it back like it's supposed to be.

Bob says leave it alone. Its been working fine like this. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'm not competing in concourse events. It's down on the list, like for the next owner.
