My weekend Car project, recycling Speaker Grills on a mid year
Well, it only took about two years for me to get around to this.
About a year after I got my car I decided to paint it. Well to move things along I took out the door cards. If you want a detailed way to take off the door cards and screw them up I got. I start unscrewing things moving right along and then decided to take off the speaker grill, what you do is take a flat head screwdriver get it under the speaker grill then start working around the edges. Be very careful, but if you stick to it and just keep on working at it you are sure to break off all three little plastic tabs that hold the speaker grill nice and tight against door card. Eventually you will get the grill off and then flip it over to see you have just turned your hard to find speaker grill into a broken piece of old plastic. It is appropriate at that time to yell, F#@K! and then smack yourself in the head for being a complete dumb a@@! I tried to glue the dang thing back on but it looked like crap and then proceeded to fall off. There is no way to make them look right, they fasten from behind and that is the only way to make the look right. But thankful for this forum and John in Wyoming! You ROCK John! Got my piece of near unutanium fixed. I took some loctite plastic weld a good speaker grill with just one broken plastic prong and took a melted donor grill and did a little minor surgery. The loctite worked fantastic it is every bit as strong as the unbroken ones. Now I don't have to look so gehtto. I guess I never got around to it because the only thing that can make you forget about the looks of these cars is to drive one. Nothing like driving a superbly handling classic sports car. Here are some pics off the start and finish. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
