Porsche Crest Greff Vs NOLA Sport in New Orleans

Guys,

I'm about to go bring my car in for first inspection, oil change, and a couple of other tweaks. Mainly, I want to introduce myself to the garage, have them inspect it and give me an idea of what needs to be done now, what should be done soon, and what would be nice to have done to bring it up to spec.

I also would like to have them change out to a 911chips.com chip.

Any older Porsche owners in New Orleans that have any thoughts on Greff vs NOLA Sport.

From what I understand, NOLA Sport are largely Greff service techs that left to start a better shop.

But what do I know? Let me know if you guys have any hands on experience.

- Ben

I don't know NOLAsport's work so I can only give my take on Greff. I've only taken my SC in once for them to double check my work. It was the first serious repair work i'd done and was second guessing myself. Turns out i did a fine job...but I did need a clutch adj. so they did that too. They rebuilt the head on my 924 back in 83 also.MR Leon let me test drive, what I would describe today as a track beast, my 1st 911. Been hooked ever since. I was 17 at the time. The new shop is nice. I love to stare at Randy's baby blue 75 Carrera when I'm there. 3rd generation says to me, we'll be here if theres any prob
Where is NOLAsport located? wouldn't mind checking them out. If the techs there are OLD Greff guys, i'd be more inclined to take my OLD 911 to them, because that's who holds the knowledge of these cars.
I get most of my work done RIGHT HERE, on Pelican. Search and ye shall find. Any problem or upgrade you want to do has been researched and documented on this board. Saves me a ton of $$ i'm sure.
Welcome aboard, We seem to have a few NOLA area pelicans these days, PM me if you need any help with anything, I've had my SC for a few yrs now and am getting pretty familiar with it and have acquired a few of the special tools needed for working or them.

Nothing against Greff. I know people that love them. But I do like the guys at NOLA Sport. I thought they came from Tom Benson's fairly recently closed dealership on Veterans -- one of the guys perhaps being the former dealership service manager. Not sure. But I am sure that Jon Scheurich has been very personable and helpful for me. I'd say just ask for their credentials.

That said, so far, I've done all the work on my car myself.

Gator, NOLA Sport is around Northline and Palmetto not far from Airline at the Jeff/Orleans parish line back up behind Metairie Country Club. It's small shop.

I'm not connected to either Greff or Nola Sport.

Welcome to the forum Ben!

Shawn

Nola

I have had many repairs done at Greff. A+ in my opinion.

By the way, any of you Nola guys have a right Boge Strut sitting around in the garage? I'm in need of one for my 86 Carrera.

I'm glad to see several other NOLA Pelicans. I've used Greff (mostly on the 924S track car I had which flooded) and have been happy with them. But I may try this new place too as it is much closer to me. For stuff like oil change, it is not a hard DIY job. I would be willing to lend a hand if someone local needs help. Also, after a few years with no dealer in the metro area, there is now a Porsche dealer on Causeway. You guys should come out the track too. There's one in Belle Rose where I just did a lapping day (in my DD because of forecast rain), and they are building one in Avondale now.

This is not Greff Techs that left to start a better shop. There is not one single x-Greff employee at NolaSport. This is however the same staff that was employed by Tom Benson's failed Porsche dealership. If you have questions about either shop a phone will clear up any and all misconceptions you may have about either place.

Welcome to the forum InTheKnow. Interesting to see this 3-1/2-year-old thread again. Thanks for validating my post (#3 above) about the NolaSport folks. I think both shops are good. I think Ben has probably made his decision by now.

I have not had an opportunity to have any first experience with either shop. I have talked with both several times about various projects. Both have been generous with their time when I have called. I did buy some pretty rare MFI stuff from Jon about 10yrs ago and thought he was great to deal with. Super nice guy. I'd be willing to bet that he runs a good operation. I would take him a car without hesitation if I ever needed someone to do work around here.

Called around to get some prices to do the first oil change for our 2014 Cayenne base. Only has about 4k miles on it but 1 year service light came on.

Porsche of New Orleans wants $350 for oil change (these are the same people who wanted to charge me $250 to fix the rear passenger seat belt that somehow got folded in the guide and couldn't retract or extend. Service adviser said they have to pull "SOME" panels to get to it. Of course I left and fixed it myself with my panel removal tool. It was JUST 1 panel that I had to remove and took about 10 minutes.

I found out all the parts that I needed and changed the oil myself. Total cost...$102.00 (7 quarts Mobil 1 5W-30 ESP, Porsche Filter, and Drain Plug). Tried to reset the "Service Now" light but found out I need a special scan tool (PIWIS or Durametric) to clear.

Called NolaSport and lady said $150 to clear the code which probably takes only 2 minutes. She said it would count as a "diagnostic." Asked about oil change and she said $250.00.

Called Greff and said he wouldn't charge me to clear the service reminder. $150 for oil change....I'm taking my car to this place for its next service and see how it goes.

1. Greff has the overall best price
2. Porsche Dealership: Best customer service.
3. Nola Sport: No comment... Nope, not gonna go there.
