Fuel line leaking in front driver's side wheel well
Hi all,
This is an '89 911 Targa 3.2L, all stock, non turbo etc. The fuel line in my driver's side front wheel well has sprung a pretty bad leak. Dripped a nice nasty smelly puddle in the garage. See pic attached. I've tried finding the fuel line part # in the PET but am having trouble. Can you tell me: 1. Part number if you know it? 2. Is this a symptom of a larger age issue, ie is it probably now time to replace all fuel lines in your opinion? 3. Is this a readily replaceable fuel line? I can probably handle a job that's up to "3 wrenches" in Wayne's book. If so, basic procedure for replacing this line? 4. If the job is 3+ "wrenches", then what cost should I expect from a mechanic? Recommendations for someone in the Tucker/Northlake GA area? Thanks in advance, Frank ![]()

It is a vent hose for your evaporative emissions control system. Just replace it with a new hose pull the old one, bring it to you FLAPS. Install it.

if that's the line I suspect to the charcoal canister it should rarely see much raw fuel in normal conditions. maybe a few ounces from time to time after over filling the tank then it sits on a very hot day. I suspect something else here besides the failed hose.

You would be surprised how much liquid gets into these lines. I had the same event about a year ago, it was that line that failed.

If you look at the jury rigged picture of the vapor tank in my 1973, you will see that rubber line coming out of the bottom of the tank (in front of the aluminum support. That is the one that failed.

Mine does the exact same thing when I fill the gas tank full and then go immediately park it. If I fill and go drive for about 15-20 miles or so (1 gallon worth of gas) everything's fine and no leak. Not exactly the right way to fix but when the tank is not quite full no issues for me.
