Looking for Rear-Facing 911 SC Car Seat for 1.5-2 Year Old

My little girl loved riding in the back of the SC in her under-12-month car seat last summer. She loves the engine noise and the great view. But Wisconsin requires rear-facing child seats until age 2, and I've been unable to locate a larger rear-facing seat that fits in the back of a 911 SC.

Has anyone else found one or modified one to fit?

Best bet is go to one of those baby stores that sells lots of seats and try out a few. We did that back in the early kid days at Babys R US... Good luck and they won't be in that seat for long as they grow so quick! cheers!

Do they let you pull your car up and swap them in and out? Or you eyeball it and take it back 5 minutes later if it doesn't fit?

I don't think you will find one nor would you want one.
I could not image trying to put a kid in the back of a 911 especially with a rear facing seat.

I used one in the front seat of my 911.

try the resale shops. we use to have one. my wife was an expert on car seats, along with cribs and other baby crap.

There are threads regarding this topic. When I am back to a real screen, I will find those that I have bookmarked.

Front

I would have thought most rear facing seats fit in the front of a 911. I'm almost certain there are only 1 or 2 that fit in the rear for very small babies, and none for toddler.

My son is 9 months old and about 20 lbs and he rides rear facing in the front seat.

Legal in the US as far as I understand, so long as you don't have airbags, which is kind of a funny idea in a vintage 911. I barely have space for normal bags, much less airbags.

Technically that car seat works until he weighs 25 lbs which should take him pretty close to 2 yrs, but I doubt it. In this picture he's actually in the base, but honestly I feel like it's more secure with the seatbelt running through the carseat itself.

A 911 isn't the safest place for a baby anyway, so I guess we are sort of rolling the dice, but it puts him to sleep every time.

Yes rear facing child seats in front with no airbags is the real way to go if your wife will get in the back seat.

I only found one thread here about getting a rear facing seat back there, and the guy had to install his own set of eye bolts and seat belt tethers to get it secure. It wasn't something I would have bet my kid's life on in a crash, so I abandoned the idea. Even if you did it, you have to put the passenger seat all the way forward for it to fit. Sucks for the passenger if you have one. Front seat is IMO safer for that type of car seat.

Now, for a front facing seat, my hot tip for you is that a Britax Roundabout is one of the only current models which will fit snugly in those crazy rear buckets.

Thank you for this. I've been looking for something that will fit in the rear of my 86.

Rear-facing in the front and wife in the back is good enough for dropping the kid at the baby-sitter before date night. But it looks like road trips are out of the question until next year.

It's been 19 years since I've had a 2-year old, but I can't imagine having enough room in the back for a rear-facing car seat large enough for a kid that big.

Intrigued with this, I did a little research. Are you positive that Wisconsin adopted this rule? This website says that as of Dec 16, 2016, it never actually became law: https://saferide4kids.com/blog/change-car-seat-laws/

And the Wisconsin DOT website (Wisconsin Department of Transportation Child safety seat laws) doesn't require it:

In basic terms:

Children must be in a car seat until they reach age 4 and 40 pounds, and in a booster seat until they reach age 8, more than 80 pounds in weight, or more than 4ft. 9in. tall.
Tiered structure applies:

Less than 1 year old, or less than 20 lbs. must be in a rear-facing child seat in the back seat (if so equipped)

If at least one year old and 20 pounds, but less than four years old or less than 40 pounds, must be a in a forward- or rear-facing child seat in the back seat (if so equipped)

Age 4 to age 8, and between 40-80 lbs., and no more than 4 ft. 9 in. must be in a forward- or rear-facing child seat in the back seat (if so equipped) or a booster seat

Penalty for non-compliance depends on the age of the child
If less than four years of age, the total penalty is $175.30
If between ages 4 and 8, the total penalty is $150.10 for the first offense, $200.50 for a second offense, and $263.50 for third and subsequent offenses
There are no exemptions from these rules allowing removal of a child from a restraint to attend to personal needs (such as feeding or diapering)

The kicker with respect to the rear seat, it says "if so equipped". I guess it probably comes down to whether the DMV considers a 911 a 2-seater (I doubt it), but an argument could be made that the 911 rear seats don't meet the definition of a rear seat that the law has in mind.

Hey guys

I have a brand new, unused Porsche, Britax, Convertible, car seat. I wanted to use it in my '83 SC but never did.

This is a Britax model produced for Porsche made specifically to fit Porsche rear seats. Can be used in rear facing configuration from 5-30 lbs. and forward facing from 20-40 lbs. 5 point harness with quick release. Narrow shell design is one of the only seats that correctly fits in older Porsche rear seats. Seat manufactured in 2001. I'd ship it anywhere in the US for $300

I don't mean to rain on this idea, but car seat manufacturers put expiration dates on their seats (at least these days they do), and 15 years would be way beyond them. As I understand it, this is because part of the seat's impact absorbing design comes from styrofoam, which breaks down over time. This reduces the protection that the seat provides. Same applies for motorcycle and bike helmets.

For my own peace of mind, I wouldn't use an old car seat just so I could take my kids in the Porsche.
