Revs and stuff....

OK, here's my dilema:

My rev limiter seems to kick in at 5250RPM!
I understand that it should be at 6250. I had my tach fixed last year by N. Hollywood Speedo, could there be a malfunction there? I've never been able to redline the car.

This weekend I put in the chip from Europroducts and while I'm not overly impressed, my rev limiter was bumped up a bit but still lower than "stock"

Question 1: Other than software, is there a way to fix this? I'll grab a spare Tach and test another one.

Q2: Has anyone noticed how prevelant the idle switch kick from decel, reallcel or from idle, push pedal, then a kick? I read the thread about taking up slack on the speed control cable, but I don't have that. Any other thought on getting a smoother response?

Your comments are welcome!!!!

Josh,

Your stock chip should have the rev limit set at 6520 rpm +/-50 rpm per the spec book ... and I bet it was working just fine! Your tach is probably in need of calibration or replacement. Worn or dirty needle pivot bearings, I suspect. Check it against a digital dwell/tach.

Try checking your rpm against road speed. Should equate to about 26 miles per 1000 rpm in 5th depending on tyre rolling radius. If it seems that you really have a 5000 rpm rev limit try checking cyl. temp. sensor and its connections. Good luck.

Thanks.
Checked it again last night on the ride home. With slow acceleration, the rev limit is higher! But it is still not past 5500. Now, its not that I ride it up there often, but I have been wanting to check a few things like HP and 0-60, have the tool to do so, and the time and space, but need to make sure all is right with the car.

I will check against another tach, and check all other sensors.

And fuel pump output, too! A MINIMUM of 850 cc output in 30 seconds is the spec!

I suggest you get a copy of the Bentley manual.

Thanks, Warren. Have the Bently's, and am working out a few other issues before completeing the rev limiter issue. Seems my tunnel is dented and is causing some rattling and some issues with shifting.

Damn the electric fence.....
