How concerning are over-rev reports from a DME report

A friend is looking at a 2011 and got a DME report as part of a PPI. It showed a 180 over-revs on the 3-4 range. Is this cause for significant concern?

Not saying you won't get an answer, but you might try cross-posting in the 997 forum.

That's nothing. I had 1000's. Even the Tiptronic was programmed the bang the rev limiter.

180 means 180 times a cylinder was cut. When you are revving 7k plus, that count happens quick. Maybe in 1 rev limit event.

Porsche apparently will not CPO a vehicle with range 4 occurrences. That being said I would ask the shop doing the PPI their advice.

Take a gander over on here:

Porsche Rev range activity guide from 911virgin

Until recently ignitions recorded in ranges 3 and 4 were considered by the Manufacturer to be safe with such vehicles still eligible for Porsche Extended warranty. Ignitions recorded in Ranges 5 and 6 would not be considered for warranty with existing policies invalidated at the point of over rev. Current Porsche warranty procedure considers activity in ranges 3 and 4 to be potentially problematic with compression tests and / or oil checks deemed necessary for incursions within the last 200 operating hours.
