What Parts Would You Like To Have Made From CF Composite?

Lets say you could have any part on your car made of carbon fiber composites, what parts would you choose? Sky is the limit!

The removables, front fenders, hood, bumpers, doors, engine lid.

my pops' centennial edition z06's body is carbon fiber... although I'm not a vette guy you did say sky's the limit...

This. I don't know anything about the structural needs of a carbon tub vs. steel, but it'd be hells-sweet to have a full carbon tub!

I think most bolt-on parts are available in carbon now...

Always wondered about calipers in carbon fiber. The unsprung weight advantage would be sizeable.

Man that would be nice. The question becomes which chassis would you replicate? There are subtle changes/improvements over the years.

I'm thinking '89 non-sunroof M491 chassis. Specify rear flare width at the time of the order!

That is part of a good idea. How about a carbon kevlar bumper reinforcement designed to act as a real bumper under composite body work? There are carbon based designs that have the ability to have a touch of give so they are very tough under impact. That would allow you to strip some weight off the car but still protect the tub.

exhaust

M.D. Holloway 02-20-2017 02:14 PM

So the next question - you want to show off the fibers or have it painted?

juanbenae 02-20-2017 02:38 PM

from the civic hoods ive seen over the years CF does not seem to hold up well to sun over time. my pops' vette is painted black from the factory.

gtc 02-20-2017 03:32 PM

The tub.

Rear seat backs to suit SC / Carrera.
SC-RS front Bumper.
SC / Carrera front rubber lip (modified to protrude a little lower).
Rear bumper to suit SC / Carrera flares.
