Brought home a project this weekend-78 SC

Came across a 78 SC that has been sitting for a few years and was covered in many layers of dust and who knows what. It was one of those "I can't leave her here" moments. Towed it home and gave the old girl a much needed bath- was glad to find no surprises under the layer of dust and dirt. Now just need to figure out what direction to go with it. 86k miles.

-I don't know how I feel about the white Fuchs
-Sitting way too high- looks like it's ready to off road
-Hooked a battery up when I got home and electronics all seem to be in good working order
-Need to drain the tank- the gas has that lovely smell to it
-Going to put the three spoke original wheel back on
-Driver bolster seam has come apart

The bad: #4 cylinder head stud is broken. This is what caused her to be parked and forgotten about. She deserves to be back on the road- shame it's been sitting so long.

And here are the pics

Nice little find. Looks to be in very good condition, and a pretty nice color.

How many miles are on the car? And how long has it been sitting?

The head stud requires at least a top end rebuild. But it sounds like you know that much already.

A lot of great potential there! Any idea why it's so high? Someone one must of had that suspension apart for some reason....? VERY cool color...it'll look great when you paint the Fuchs to black.
Head stud replace, ent can be a slippery slope When I did mine on my 83 I just did the basic "while you're in there" seals...CIS lines...new sound pad...and everything else that was necessary, and got out with out killing my wallet so don't get intimidated, the possibilities are totally up to you.
Good luck with it...looks like a nice car.

You did the right thing by taking that car. Are those 15 inch Fuchs? You're going to have some fun for sure.

Very nice, I like the color. Paint the wheels, Top end rebuild, lower it, and call it a day for a while.

Fantastic...

Wow, what a score. Early SC's are fantastic for many reasons, but they seem to run like a 3.2 Carrera and rev easier (big port heads & higher flow FD), chrome trim, and interesting colors to name a few. Period C&D road tests recorded 0-60 in 5.5 sec and near 100 QM times (a targa no less). Please tell me it has no sunroof! That color is great.

When you are doing the top end be sure to check for the dreaded rubber centered clutch that has been known to grenade (low miles it could be there). A gent that lives near me has a wonderful low mile '78 in Continental Orange with no sunroof & sport seats and his clutch exploded last year!

I have an '82, which I am plan to rebuild much like an early spec model (heads, high flow CIS, Max Moritz kit, etc.).

Drive in good health, double check all of the suspension bushings while you lower the suspension. Great score!

Is the engine in?
Can't see the exhaust in those photos.

Love the colour! Looks like a great score pending price.

Never thought I would see that color on a 911. I had a 72 chevelle when I was 18 in that same color. What a great find. Good luck with the rebuild. Looks like it's in great shape.

That is an amazing find! The paint and interior all look to be in seriously amazing shape, from what I can tell from the pictures anyways. Id' throw some clay bar, wax and a paint sealant on there to make it really shine. This is the sealant I use every 6 months on my vehicles: Liquid Paint Sealant - 16oz - PelicanParts.com. It'll also have provide some protection through the changing of seasons. What are your plans with her once you get what you need fixed up?
