Options for bumper shock mount rust repair
Ok...my rally car is moving along way slow for a number of reasons, but rust is the biggest one. I hate body work and although I'd be happy to tackle it if good repair sections are availible, I can't seem to find a clean one. Anyone have suggestions for repair in this area? Any aftermarket repair sections or only Porsche? Looks like the only NOS part I can find is 2k. No good.

I think finding a section from a donor car for that area is your best bet...

3Litre: I just did this same repair, although I didn't remove the bumper shock brackets (the big assembly spot welded to each inner fender); I worked around them and did a pretty nice job, but your approach is better. Please check Classic Carreras, the excellent 911 resto shop of Jon Miller in Ireland, look under the Repair Diaries. He has documented at least a half dozen of this exact job, and he uses new bumper shock brackets each time, so it appears those are still available. He uses plain sheet to repair the inner fender itself. Great pictures to inspire you. Best of luck, John in CT.

I had to do the same repair. I took it to my fab shop and simply cut, formed and welded. I'd be surprised if any decent body shop that does welding couldn't pull this off. Mine doesn't look pretty in these mid job pics but it's strong, straight, and fully hidden. I was careful to leave the rear mounting plate for the shock in place for alignment later. Now before some smarty pants comments on the welding this was a during construction pic. It looked fine after it was all fit, ground and the weld built up to suit.
Don't overthink this stuff - it's just metal. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Good info guys. I am overthinking it a bit, but such is life. Just want to make sure the repair is top notch.
