Post Engine Lid

Currently when I pull the release for the engine compartment, I have to reach back and pull it up. It has the whale tale so there is additional weight. Is there a simple adjustment so all I have to do is pull the release lever and then walk to the back of the car to raise the lid?

Thanks,
Bill

The position of the post attached to the lid can changed by loosening the two bolts. This can be a bit dangerous because you might adjust it too far and not be able to release the lid at all.

I had the same problem with my 78 that has a Carrera tail. New duel lid shocks didn't help. I then discovered that there should be two small rubber nubs on the engine side of the deck lid. These rubber nubs push the deck lid away from the body when the release lever is pulled. Perhaps your's fell off or are in need or replacement. The rubber nubs will not cause the deck lid to spring up but will lift the deck lid enough so that the latch clears the mechanism, allowing you to lift the deck lid. I'll post some pic tonight if you need them.

The locking post which holds the spring ond the deck lid is threaded (and notched) and can be adjusted be means of a large flat blade screwdriver. They are notoriously tight, so it might take a larger flat blade tool of some kind. Anyway, you might start there.

The rubber bumpers set the vertical position of the lid corners when closed. It sounds like the lock post is not extended enough and/or you could use some more release travel. The lock post spring should pop the lid up slightly when released. Adjust the lock post-to-latch distance by varying the threaded length of the lock post. If you need more adjustment range, use spacers under either upper or lower latch mechanism plates. It's a matter of trial and error adjustments.

Hope this helps,

I think Paul is right. The fix for this is VERy uncomplicated. The two rubber gumdrops that keep the lid from rattling agains the car fram, and which are located inside the rear corners of the lid, also 'pop' the lid away from the latch mechanism when released. The fix:

Open the lid, turn each gumdrop a half turn counterclockwise. Voila! as they say in France.
