Which ramps should be brown, and which should be black.
I'm staring at my open chain case on my 72 2.4 and realized that all brown ramps were used. My understanding is that there should be 4 black, and 1 brown. What goes where??
Thanks, ian |

The one brown ramp is installed lower, right side. Blacks everywhere else.

And it is 5 black and one brown, they must be installed w/ the long end of each ramp pointing the right way, etc. An extremely simple job if you have the instructions, a guaranteed f***-up if you don't. Might want to invest in a manual if you are working on your motor.

the tall, black ones tend to look dark brown, so don't be fooled. the actual short brown one originally was considerably lighter color than the rest, but porsche used short black ramps in the later years that were darker than the tall black ones. so basically, the only short one goes in the case at the bottom right. the long ends of the ramps point to the nearest sprocket.

I have heard that in years gone by, the factory sent a tech letter to the dealers instructing them to use all brown rails. I heard this from an old factory tech. It was to supposed to quiet down the chains. I have never heard such a thing since. Anybody else ?
