Wheel spacers

I just bought H&R 21mm wheel spacers for the rear of my 78 SC. The passenger side rear tire sits perfect with no rubbing, but my drivers side rear is now rubbing against the fender lip. The rear drivers side tire sticks out further. I know I can roll the rear fender, but my question is can I order a smaller size spacer for the drivers side rear or machine the spacer down a few millimeters? Would the car track differently with different size rear spacers? Car is lowered and sits at 24.5 in the rear. Thanks

Whoa, that is pretty low.

1. what are the camber readings?

2. body is uneven from the factory, hand made.

My take back in the day: Fact or Fiction???

There are a few companies out there that will mill whatever size you like in regards to spacers. Are you sure your camber isn't off on that side?

that's normal for one tire to stick out more than the other.
my 77 did the same thing.
I actually used 2 different sizes to make them the same because one sat really nice in the fender (turbo flares) and the other did not.

I just had the alignment done in December by the Porsche Dealership and the camber readings are Left Rear : -0.29' and Right Rear : -0.43'.

T77911S : So you milled down one spacer and no issues? I think I would only have to take off maybe four millimeters on that drivers side

My 87 is at about that same height which I'd actually like to raise a half inch or so. With my car its the front that is nearly 3/8" different side to side but so far I haven't tried to deal with it. Small differences are more of a challenge with the hub-centric to fix. I would say there is no issue detailing the spacers as you find necessary. Not likely to ever be noticible in how it drives.

So it looks like you have a tad less neg camber on the drivers side, not much, but it might make a difference. Now, if it was me I would increase the negative camber in the rear on both sides in hopes that this will fix your issue. Also, make sure the car is the same height on both sides, not sure if your have adj spring plates, if so its easy to increase. Not sure how much you weigh but the shop I use places weights in the drivers seat before they align.

If you mean driver side for Left Rear, then here is some of the issue. Your right is more cambered in then the left. If you camber in the left side to match the right ( passenger side ) it should correct the lip scrubbing issue.

I had a similar issue, however on checking it was found the driver side height was lower by 11mm compared to the passenger side which in turn affected the rear camber angles.
Corrected front height and this sorted rear

We milled a spacer for a Boxster on the driver's side - no problems . . . and have different sizes on the rear of the race car - no problems . . .

Regards,

Guys thanks for the replies. I think I may just buy a 15mm spacer and put it on the drivers side rear. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again.

Didn't buy the spacer. Ended up rolling the fender with a piece of PVC Pipe while applying heat. It did crack the paint a little, but not bad. Rub is gone.
