A dash lighting issue

Just tidying up some of the little little issues on my car, one of which is the fact that in my temperature control area the word "fan" is not illuminated at night. Figured it was a blown bulb, but got in there last night to sort it out and found out that the black plastic collar on the back of the word "fan" that the neck of the bulb socket slides into is broken off; the bulb is there and working, but hanging free because of this.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem? I'm thinking of finding a piece off same diameter plastic off of something and then cutting and JB welding it onto the back of the temp control area to take the bulb, but I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem and dealt with it before I go down that road?

Also, it is a major PITA working around the ash tray housing to get at those 4 bulbs above it on the back of the temp control panel. Can I pulled the temp control panel forward out of the dash somehow to get access to these light PITA bulbs?

My last experience with these indicator lights required the removal of the ashtray
housing.

If the broken bulb attachment is on the upper right, you may me able to access it & repair
after removing the ashtray housing.

If there is enough of the "neck" left, I would suggest finding a
hard plastic sleeve that will glue over the existing bulb holder.

The control panel is held by two screws at each end of the panel.

But, removing the panel is a real pain.....

Good luck,

Gerry

That is common. They get hot and brittle and eventually they just melt or break off. The whole control unit on my SC is held to the firewall by 1 bolt. If you crawl up under there you will see it. If you take this bolt out you can slide the whole thing forward. It's a PITA. You just have to wrestle with it.
