69-73 Tool Bag Query
 

Hi,

Please can anyone let me know what of the following 3 options should be stated on the 19mm lug wrench with tapered end :-

1.) Just 19mm
2.) Just KLEIN
3.) None of the above - it should have nothing stated on it

P.S. my car is a USA 911T, 1972 Model Year with Build Date of 01/07/71.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

For what its worth. DR B Johnson's book shows the 69 - 73 tool kit to be identical. My '70 still has the original tool kit (less the plastic bag with 5 fuses), and the "19 mm Wheel Nut Wrench" has only the 19 mm stamp.

Hi Al,

I'm not a member on the early s Registry and don't have access to the book you mentioned.

Would it be possible for you to post a picture of your wrench / and ideally complete kit to include markings where appropriate as I am in the process of buying a complete tool bag now and have options on the lug wrench I get and want to make sure I get this and some other details right!!!!

I would be particularly interested to see if your wrench has 19mm on the socket end only and if it has other markings. As well as the 3 possible markings in my initial post I also understand that some wrenchs have 19mm on the shaft as well as Klein...very confusing!!!

Not a tool kit expert by any stretch, but based upon my reading, it should have a tapered end and be stamped with '19 mm' on the socket end, not on the shaft as was done on the later lug wrenches.

It's not worth much, because that statement is false. :D Lots of little changes, especially in 1973...

I’m kind of a 70/71 originality junkie (not Concourse) so here is a follow up.

With apologies to DR Johnson, the content list for the 69 & 70 tool kit is identical to that listed for the 71 – 73 tool kit. Since his book is heavily weighted to part numbers, it is reasonable to assume that the 71 – 73 tool kit has a different part number than the 69 – 70. Thus my detailed information may or may not apply to your car. Enjoy. I highly recommend buying his book on questions regarding originality.

1) Bag photo – see below.
2) Spark plug wrench with pin: Has the circumferential label KLEIN with 21 below it. There is a slot on the opposite end to accommodate the item 11 Allen Wrench.
3) 19mm Wheel nut wrench: Has 19mm stamped in the constant diameter segment at the wrench end.
4) The Open ended wrenches (8x9mm, 10x11mm, 12x13mm, 14x15mm, 17x19mm) All have the same markings: Raised letters Drop Forged Steel GERMANY. The wrench size # is in raised numbers at each end.
5) The 19x22 Box end wrench: The 19 and 22 are stamped at the wrench shaft end in a roughly 3/8” diameter lowered circle. CHROM – VANADIUM appears in raised letters on the flat.
6) Screwdriver and Phillips screwdriver. The blade screwdriver is unusual in that the blade portion is about an inch long, and about 2.5 times thicker than the tip. Both screwdrivers have raised letters, in a very small font, on a flat: 1000 VOLT W – GERMANY. I had never noticed that before! That’s why I take the time to respond to a very few selected posts. To learn something new regarding originality. Did you know that the door key slot is horizontal on a ‘70 and vertical on a ’71?
7) Fan Belt: Mine looks like it may be the original that came from the factory. Its marked by black PORSCHE letters on a yellow background, followed by 9.5x710 Phoenix 9/12 OA
8) Pliers have no markings. Mine looks just like the one shown in Johnson’s photo for ‘71 – ’73.
9) Plastic bag with 5 fuses: Mine was gone when I bought the car.
10) Fan belt wrench: P208 is stamped at the midpoint of the flat surface.
11) Allen Wrench for Oil Drain Plug: Stamped DIN 911SW10, then some space, then some other stampings too faint to read.
12) Jack – See the photo pf my trunk.
The attached photos show some of the detail described above. Sorry about the not so great quality.

Unless my vision is worse than I thought, Johnson’s photo shows only 4 box end wrenches, while his list shows 5. Also, the photo from Henry shows 5 open end for his ’73.5. By the way, change the photo label to ’70 and it looks exactly like mine. I’m just saying.
