Should I even consider this 911?

What do you guys think about this? I haven't talked to the owner yet (it is 3:30 in the morning...) but I would like to look at it a little more closely. See how bad the engine is if it's even affected. I could stand to drive something that is slightly ugly for a little while http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/biggrin.gif

NO! DON'T DO IT!

I want it! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

Seems like all it needs is a new quarter panel, tail light, bumper and extension, and you're good to go! Just make sure nothing else is damaged.

It could well be a bargain!

As long as the car is still straight. i.e. you dont need to stick it on a jig then i'd go for it. Bodywork can get very very expensive! Its not so much the parts, its the hours involved.

If the engine is good as well then you are laughing.

Alex.

Yeah...engine and tranny alone are worth the money...

If that 3.2 has the 'orange-red' elastomer valve-stem seals, you may be into a rebuild because of valve guide "ISSUES" ... long before you get to put many more miles on it!

I bought my 911 wrecked in the front and repaired it. The repair process was a great opportunity to renew/upgrade many items...and my final result was/is excellent.

However, I would be leary of a rear ended one. with the damage visible in those pics, you run a high risk of engine damage and some substantial mechanical work in addition to the collision repair. BUT, if you're willing to put in the time and $$$ and the price is right for you, its your call.

Good Luck,
Nick.

The ad on ebay says the engine runs rough and is not driveable.

Be cautious.

Now that's pretty interesting...runs rough but not driveable? There's something wrong about that...if I were you I wouldn't do it, unless you know your 911s well.

It says runs but not drives. This alone tells me maybe the driveshaft or rear hub is fubar. Tell tale sign is the spare rim and tire. Probably suspension damage.

I would be carefull! Check with your insurance company about insuring salvage or "rebuildable" titles. Some wont insure you.

Just be carefull

"was a nice car before the accident"

One of the best pitches I've heard!

cim 10-22-2001 06:19 PM

it is also on ebay...looking on the computer is the closest i would go (proverbial ten foot pole)...bad spot for an accident on a 911

Run, son...run. LIKE THE DEVIL HIMSELF WERE AFTER YOU! Unless, of course you are looking for a "parts car".

motion 10-22-2001 06:36 PM

If its too good to be true, then it probably is. If there was money to be made, the person/shop who's selling it would do it themselves.
