Question Blasting and cleaning

Morning Pelicans:

I'm half-thru my '83SC suspension refresh, and have a few questions:
  • I've had my control arms powder coated (American Stripping in Manassas, they look awesome, will post pics later!) and they did a good job masking the splines of the torsion tube. However, that means that some surface rust is still there on the splines. Can I have the splines media blasted to remove that surface rust? Any other advice before I start mounting the items to the car?
  • Likewise, I've got my trailing arms out, and there's 33 years of muck and grime on them. Will I be able to have these arms blasted as well? Looking to remove the grime and beat back some of the patina.

Thanks, Pelicans!

HA! I used American Stripping to do my arms back in 2006 - glad they are still in business.

If it really is just surface rust, you can wire brush it off and then treat it with some Kroil/Gibbs, etc and then re-scrub. Once you grease them up to re-install you should be fine.

Could just use a wire brush on the splines. The whole bar should be coated with grease to prevent further corrosion.

You can definitely have the trailing arms cleaned and refinished. I believe they're just bare aluminium. Tru6 is a plater that frequents Pelican, and I've seen some great photos of refurbished trailing arms (though I cannot seem to find them at this moment). Lots of other places nationwide, too.

Trailing Arms.
3 to 4 10 minute cycles thru a heated jet washer then soda blasted. When finished water rinsed to remove any soda and blown dry. They will come out looking like they just came off the shelf.
