Another Boxster caliper to SC upgrade question(s)
Scored a nice set of calipers on Rennlist for a very good price. My question is, are the SC brake lines compatible or do they need to be replaced or modified to fit the early non S calipers?
I also have heard that the boosted SC master cylinder is adequate and stock SC brake rotors can be used, correct? I am looking for adapters and I see prices all over the map. Patrick Motor Sports at $400 (4 bolts and 2 pieces of billet aluminum) :confused: to Brembo/Porsche Caliper Brackets (MK4 VW/MK1 TT) USRT Boxster/MK4 Brake Caliper Adapters [BRAKEADPT4] - $150.00 : USRT, Usually Sideways Rally Team at $150. Those USRT adapters look like they are for VW's, not older Porsches. I think you need these:
911 Brake Caliper Adapter-Rennline, Inc. Rebel Racing stuff includes lines, so that may justify the price difference. |
I have a set of front boxster calipers and adapters for sale, somebody make me an offer :D. pic of calipers but did not get pic of the adapters.
restoring the 85 to stock, rebuilt the original calpers and reinstalled. because I ran at DE, I found the pedal travel too much on the track and also upgraded to Turbo MC. and then with more grabbing power on the front, replaced the stock rear bias valve with a manual and was running with it all the way open. You'll need to use new brake lines. You also have to upgrade to carrera rotors

The NEW orientation of the Boxster calipers and line fittings needs to be CAREFULLY checked how it relates to the tub when the suspension is fully bottomed out in the rear. Rebel should disclose this IMHO |

Use a straight edge to check if the brake fittings and lines that come out the boxster calipers now mounted on top of the brake rotor is going to interact with the body tub in any manner when the rear suspension is fully compressed in its arc of travel.
The potential of snapping off the caliper fitting needs a sanity check when doing this type of brake mod that orients the caliper in a way it was never designed for. Didn't like what I saw and off they came, went back to Carrera calipers |

I only installed the boxster calipers on the front, so dont know about the rear.
you need to consider a couple issues, have the bleeders on the top and the smaller of the pistons contact the rotor first based on rotational direction. when I got my kit, I had to reverse the crossover tube and the bleeders so the bleeders would be on top AND the smaller piston being on the side where the rotor goes into the caliper. I suspect they were still configured for the normal boxster orientation. on the single piston calipers this is a bit like making sure you align that notch on the piston correctly. not sure if this makes sense or I have explained clearly. good luck. |
