Keeping the chain tight, or really keeping it from skipping a tooth???

When people talk about screwing up their cam timing with the tensioner upgrade, it is described in several areas including waynes book by saying to keep the chain tight at all times.

First of all, there is no way to keep the chain tight and remove the tensioners and idler arms.

Aren't you really just trying to make sure that the chain does not skip a tooth on the chain sprockets?

Even if you do move the chain and the cam, as long as it all moves in respect to where it originally was, shouldn't you be okay??

I marked my cam sprockets with paint dots in respect to the chain. I figure that as long as I keep it in respect to my marks on both sides, im okay.

Anyone disagree??
