Compatible coil needed for Permatune Blue box 3 pin

I've searched and can't find the info I'm looking for. While idling in traffic the other day car just died. Pushed out of the way and check things over. Culprit is weak spark so I started by testing the easy things once I got car home. Bosch silver coil has given up the ghost with a resistance of 680 ohms. So I need a replacement. Can anyone tell me if the MSD coil is suitable with the older Blue Box Permatunes? I see various coils offered and some say they are meant for use with the blue box and some list no compatibility of any sort. Happy to spend what I need to, just not looking to overspend as I understand the blue box has issues of its own in the long run. If I get the. MSD I will replace the stock Porsche rotor with the Napa EP407 as recommended unless there is a better option I've missed. Thanks.

MSD Blaster 8222 epoxy filled coil is what I use.

If you want a stealth look, take the time to peal the ugly "BLASTER" sticker off the 8222. It will take a few minutes with some goo-gone, but it looks so much better without the sticker.

I got tired of dealing with the original Permatune in my '77. I even tried their new stuff... waste of time. Ditched anything permatune (Some call it PermaCrap) and put in the MSD StreetFire. Runs like a champ ever since.

I also took out the points and went to Petronix which may or may not have helped, but was an easy upgrade.

Gentlemen I appreciate your feedback. Pulling the Permatune is a planned future upgrade. For now just need to get it running as my buddies fiancé will be here in a week and a half and I've promised her a ride in the Porsche. Thanks for your help.

Permatune 911 Manual:

"Any quality ignition coil will work with the Perma-Tune, however some "high performance" coils may cause flash over in the distributor cap. Perma-Tune coil P/N 103 or any quality 12 Volt coil without an internal ballast resistor is recommended."

Quick update. Installed the coil and car fired right up. Thanks for the advice John Walker's Workshop. Luftkuhl you were right the coil looks significantly better without the garish sticker. Now the fun part. Sourced a Napa EP407 and it does not fit. It's too long along it's long axis and makes contact with sides of the distributor cap . I'll find a proper replacement soon...

You don't need a non-resistor rotor unless you use an MSD box.
