Question regarding Targa and Cab sun visors
Does anybody have an idea as to why Porsche did not choose to install a sun visor that pivots like that of the coupe, in the Targa and Cab models? It certainly would be nice to be able to pivot the sun visor to block the sun when it is coming from the side, but I would have to believe Porsche had a reason for not having done so.
Thanks

I dunno, but I had a Fiat X1/9 that had a targa top, and those sun visors didn't pivot either. My friend has a 914, and i haven't noticed if those pivot.

My best guess it that without a roof to protect it, it would be very easy for it to get damaged/bent.
Second guess is that since it has an open top you would have bought some real cool sunglasses and not needed as good of a visor!

They also do not pivot on my wife's 2007 Boxter, so they kept the same rationale until pretty recently...

I took mine off and keep a ball cap in the door pocket. Much nicer.

If you had it deployed to the side with the roof down and decided to get out without stowing it you'd loose an ear.

I cut my visors in hallf (right along that crease line) and covered them in Alcantara - MUCH less intrusive, and still usable. No, they still don't pivot.
Second half of thread hijack: I had an X1/9 and I miss it as much as the girlfriend at the time!!! That FIAT is the most fun you can have under 30 MPH, period. Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 428k miles |

I appreciate the responses, but it doesn't look like anybody thus far has any definitive or logical idea as to why Porsche would have prevented the sun visors from swiveling on anything but a coupe. While I always drive with a cap on, I have nothing to block the sun when it is coming from either of the sides. Before some smart ass tells me to avoid turning my car in such a way that would cause the sun to be on either side of my car, I am just trying to see if anybody knows of an issue I might encounter if I were to replace my sun visors on my Targa for those designed for a coupe. In looking at the parts diagram they appear to be interchangeable, but Until I actually try to swap them I won't know for sure. Before going there I was just trying to see if anybody knew of why Porsche had done it this way...especially since many other car manufactures of non coupes had made the same decision.
Regards

Maybe there's a law? It wouldn't surprise me...

In my 72 Mercedes SL convertible, the visors do pivot. I think you could probably do the replacement, it might take a bit of finagling. Let us know how it goes!
