mallory fuel pump info requested
just received the 7 series Mallory fuel pump I will be using on my carbed 75 and looking for the least of two evils. will be moving it to the front of the car at either the cross member or smugglers box. per the instruction below I have both a wiring question & a mounting question
mounting- states to mount the unit at or below the fuel tank outlet which indicates the lower cross member location. simple right? well not so fast, it also states that the pump needs to be mounted in a vertical position. so this would seem to require a smugglers box location as low as possible. which of these two criteria is most important in the brain trusts opinion? the instructions in the box do not match this exactly in that the figure #3 wiring instructions it calls out for a bosch part # 0 332 204 150 relay to be implemented, but in figure #4 it shows simply a fused line from ignition on for power. my question is the relay incorporated version going to shut down when the motor is stalled with ignition still on? I realize that the direct fused line will maintain pump operation when the engine is stalled yet 12v remains hot from the keyed ignition. to avoid this will the relay incorporated method kill the pump if the motor is not running? I wired mine in fused where fuel pump relay was. Also installed an inertia switch in case of impact. Pump runs in on positon and has a safety back up.

I'm at the same place as the OP, did you weld a plate to the cross member and then bolt to that using the Mallory bracket? TIA

I ended up mounting mine in the smuggler's box per the photo below. bonus points if you recognized the billstein bump stops I used to isolate it from the body. the hoses have since been trimmed back and run a bit more elegantly. I used the initial pump install to drain the tank to run new lines from the it to the pump. the noise in the cabin was not overwhelmingly noticeable. since this will be a weekend hotrod the creature comforts of a quiet ride are not of high importance.

I'm using a Carter brand pump, but I similarly mounted mine in the smugglers box:
