1969 911E Original colour (Silver metallic)
Hi to all . I am in the process of restoring the car and I want to finish it in the original colour (Silver metallic)
Colour plate on the car ( Near side door hinge area) has the following numbers Top : 76-81-9101-H and bellow
77-9410-0503 . The question is what type of paint it was , cellulose , two pack , baked...etc and how to obtain
the exact colour , code.

Thank you
PS : At the moment I am experimenting with plating and colour passivating for the fastenings so I am afraid I will
be asking for some more help.

A much better thread on that code. It would help my research to know the VIN.
Strange A-pillar chassis/paint code plate

silver paint

Theodore 69,this may help,years ago infact 1992, i painted a 1970 Porsche 911
metalic silver when living in Sacramento ,. The reason im telling you this is, i owned a 65 Buick Riviera same colour that i had also painted. The paint name is called silver cloud
and its one of the best silvers available,as it is close to Porsche silver you will get, and
is fabulous and every person that sees it loves it. supply from Sherwin Williams Auto
code is for 63 and 64 Riviera code D. and same colour for 65 Riviera code Z.
I dont have photo of Porsche as i sold it 1994 no digital photos. But will include photo of
Riviera , may help you, there is also a 63 for sale now ebay item 381994625965.

PS it is base coat clear coat.

Hi to all.
I am very impressed with the responses that my question has created.
Thank you very much for your input. It looks like the first number is the code for the original colour that the car left the factory with and the second number is the code of the colour that Porsche repainted the car under waranty as the very first silver metallics were not that great. Unfortunaly I still do not know what either of these codes mean in terms of obtaining paint for repainting the car. Current colour is Silver metallic ( Zikkens 980 ) .

Thank you , the search goes on

From my research, the 1969 cars all got this code or the 76-81... variant.
I do not think it was the original and repaint.
I believe it to be the base coat & clearcoat. Probably the 1970 color 925 will come the closest to being correct. The paint materials have changed a lot since 1969. The silver metal flake is of a different fineness now. However, 60's & 70's silver metallic tended to have a very short life span. Today's paint is much better.

Thank you djpateman for your advice . Do you know if they used cellulose or two pack. In the Porsche colour codes they allways add M2 next to the clearcoat .

Thank you

Well, the badge says "Kunstharzlack" which I understand is synthetic enamel.

Nice Buick. I had a 65 Riviera for many, many years and was the best car I have ever owned. I truly regret selling it. All auto designers should should aspire to design a car this good. Sorry for the thread derail.
