1986 911 No start

Running really strong this year until..........
Pulled it out to wash and wax, then just not starting.
Symptoms & trouble shooting so far:

1. Cranks

2. Fuel smell at the exhaust

3. All fuses check out

4. New DME Relay installed

5. DC power to the coil

6. Does not seem to any spark out of coil

I will be grateful for any input. Thanks

Flywheel sensors and CHT temperature sensor are most likely NOT the issue if you really have fuel signals. Smell out of the exhaust can be misleading. You might want to consider confirming with a cheap NOID test light (eBay) or an LED test light if you have fuel signals. If both fuel and spark are missing it points towards sensors. Depending on age the wires might have cracked insulation that is sensitive to water intrusion.

Then check if you get spark from the coil to a single spark plug or put the LED test light on the primary of the coil. If you see pulses but no spark from the distributor then the "wet cap/rotor" could be your problem. If you have fuel pulses confirmed but no spark pulses it is the DME. Depending on how handy you are you can attempt to fix it yourself or get it done professionally.

(there will be tons of comments coming from the usual suspects once they pick the scent of this thread so I stop here)

Regards,
Ingo
