930 - Who makes an adapter for using stock intercooler in long neck configuration?
As the subject line asks, I'm looking for a supplier that makes an adapter that will allow the use of a stock configuration intercooler when the pop-off valve is replaced with a C2T or aftermarket unit.
This adapter would simply extend the outlet attaching the intercooler to the throttle body. Thanks. |
Just go with a C2T intercooler, better, bigger, and easier. I have not seen any "adapters" that you are looking for. You could get one machined I guess, or use a hard flex hose.
|
The reason I'm asking is because I am using a real nice B&B unit and do not wish to spend another $1000+ on an intercooler.
Someone HAS to make an adapter. They make them for K27-7200 turbos, so why not intercoolers? |
There's nothing wrong with OEM BOV-valve...it may be little heavy but it sure flows more than any aftermarket gadget.
Plus, it's rebuildable. There is zero HP gain here... |
Not looking for HP here, just wish to simplify the engine as much as possible. The stock BOV is PITA to remove. I've done it a few times for various reasons and would like to eliminate this obstruction.
Hasn't anyone done this? Those long neck intercoolers don't go cheap. |
well, you could carve off the end of your housing and weld up the passage. use a piece of the remains to make a filler plug, then have a shop weld it in. clean it up with a die grinder. do the same for the intake pipe down the left side. then the whole left side pipe is removeable for valve adjusts, etc. i did that on my turbo speedster and it works fine. see, you already had the pieces, now go get the sawzall.

RarlyL8,
I'm running the C2T Pop Off/Long Neck setup on my car. I believe Performance Products sells the setup you are looking for. Just do a search on Long Neck in the Porsche catalog. |
John you're scaring me. That sounds like something I'd do.
As a matter of fact I just might. Note to self: it's just a car. Mr. Ruff I make it a practice to never open the pages of Performance Products, thank you. We ARE on the PP site after all. Seriously, anyone got an old BOV they discarded when doing the CT2 conversion (wink wink)? I'll take it and fire up the saw. No need to cut up the perfectly good one on the motor now. |
there ought to be a bunch of those housings around, with all the intercooler swaps going on.
|
I already sold mine

RarlyL8,
Don't want to throw a wet towel on this party, but I have an '88 930 with stock IC and BOV. The BOV was damaged (cracked) at the IC bolt threads. I inquired about welding this up to fix, but was informed that because it was a magnesium based alloy that any repairs would not hold. I don't know what year motor/BOV you have, but you may run into the same problem if your piece is also magnesium. I'm not a welder, and I don't know if you are, but I know that exotic alloys normally require exotic welding techniques that not just anyone is qualified to perform. Good Luck |
a local guy welded mine. he said it took him a while to find the right rod, but he got it done. he called it "rot mag".
|
Brad - if your looking to trash the part I'll give it a go and see what happens.

RarlyL8,
Sorry, the part is gone in a swap/purchace of another used one that is in good shape so the guy will have all "original" parts for the car which it came off. I guess that is a selling tactic when you have modded a car you have all the original parts that will go with the sale. I'm still waiting for the "new" part for install. However, I have to pull my intake manifold to fish a "divider" plate out which the PO's mech put in directly under the throttle body. The plate was bolted in through the bottom of the Manifold but apparently came loose recently. Lucky for me I had to pull this BOV off as I caught this problem when inspecting the throttle body. I had one bolt hole open to outside air in the manifold and one bolt just hanging there. "Luckily" the plate is too large to fall through any intake runner and the bolts were mounted with the heads outside the manifold and no nuts inside as they were threaded directly into the divider plate. I hope the one missing bolt had just stripped out and not sheared! Will have to check this out carefully. Check out the photo looking into the intake through the throttle body. |
