Matching numbers?
Putting the buggy on the auction block. Any way to confirm numbers matching without the $100 COA? What is the worth to a collector of numbers matching?
And once I've removed the AC and added a repro duck and period chin spoiler, does it really matter? Cheers Scott |
Depends on what you are selling and how you are marketing it.
If it is an SC or Carrera not as much as if it was a early Turbo or early Carrera. I think a lot of people out there just want a fun classic Porsche to drive and have fun in, then there is other people out there investors, flippers and purists. The easier people to deal with are the ones who are just looking for a 911. I'm come down on the fun side myself since I have 77S with a 78 Twin plug 3.2l engine in it. Mine is just a midyear early hotrod, but man it is fun to drive. |
When I bought my roller 4 years ago, I called Porsche and asked them for some info and they gave me a few things like motor number, paint color, etc. It was just the basics, but no charge for the info. It may have taken a couple calls with maybe a call back from them. Can't remember all the details now.

I called PCNA, phone tree, customer service rep, asked question, was directed without further adieu to COA at $100. Which I did. Well, it will make a wall hanging for the next owner (if he want to buy it...)
