Mahle OC 54 or Mann W940/29
I'm about to do the first oil change on my '83 SC and I'm curious about owner's opinions on oil filters.
My vehicle came with a Mahle OC 54 and my local repair shop supplied me with a Mann W940/29. Am I ok to use the Mann or is there a preference to oil filters? Thx, Hugh |

No experience with the Mann, I have always used the OC 54.
Might find some info here. Not all oil filter are created EQUAL!

Mahle and Mann are both great brands. Mann is the OEM filter for Audi/VW's and is the filter we used for oil changes at the Audi/VW performance shop I worked at. Believe the W940/29 is the correct one for your SC. Our Mahle filter for your vehicle has over 52 reviews for it here: 1983 Porsche 911 SC Coupe - Filters & Belts - Page 2 that you can check out.

Thanks guys, just wanted to confirm that the Mann filter wasn't going to cause problems.

It's the other four letter filter that rhymes with yours that you'll want to avoid

I've always used Mahle filters in 911s. A while back I tried the Porsche brand filters for the first time in my 993 and few thousand miles later the small filter started leaking. It's rare but it happens - I removed it and replaced it with the Mahle. I won't do that again.
