Exhaust question...
I'm wanting to get my '82 SC exhaust completely stock and had a question about heat shields. I know there was one to go underneath the catalytic converter, but I also saw an explosion diagram that showed one under the crossover pipe. I can't seem to locate an actual pic of a car with a shield under the crossover pipe?
Does anyone know if this was a factory thing at all? Thanks! |

I have never seen the crossover pipe with a shield on a 911.
On a 930 there is a plate protecting the scavenge pump from the exhaust heat Bruce |

Pic of my bone-stock 82 SC before I added SSIs. Not only do I not see a heat shield, I don't see a place to mount one.
OTOH, there is a bracket for a heat shield under the cat, but mine was removed, and the bracket is still there, so it to me says, if there had been a heat shield under the crossover, we'd see a bracket or a mounting method. ![]()

Here is a pic of my 83 SC taken by the previous owner just before it was sold to me 6 months ago. Not sure if what you are looking for is pictured in this shot.
My slate blue 911 is currently at the Porsche mechanic for the installation of SSI's, Dansk (2 in 1 out) sport muffler & backdated heat. ![]() ![]() |
