Rear Torsion Bar Sliding OK?
Hi Folks,
I was replacing my rear brake rotors over the weekend and just happened to notice the torsion bars sitting in the Sway A Way (SAW) spring plates since I had the end caps off. The drivers' side torsion bar was clearly pushed into the car more than that the passenger side. See the attached photos. I installed these bars and spring plates about 12 years ago so it's hard to tell how long they have been like this. Is there any risk that the bar on the passenger side will "Slip" off of the inner splines in the body of the car? Or am I concerned for nothing? Thanks in advance. Noel ![]() ![]()

I have no idea how long the splines are in the Springplate I hope they are longer that it looks like.
In the torsion tube there is no stop other than the other bar. I think you should center them. |

The end caps on the spring plates are splined fully so I'm not concerned about the bars slipping off the splines on that side. That you so much for posting the torsion bar tube cut away. This give me a great idea about the "Margin" I have on the inside of the car.
Based on that, I"m sure I"m fine, but I'm going to error on the side of safety and relieve the tension on the bars (Disconnect the shocks and sway bar), then tap the passenger bar back in, which will then push the driver side bar back out. Thank you again. Noel
