Unidentified Metal
All:
I am tidying up a 3.0L from a 1981 911 SC. To address and oil leak in the "triangle of death", I pulled the thermostat. what you see in the picture is a small piece of unidentified metal (see picture). It look like the remains of a smashed aluminum washer or something. You can see it starting at about 11:00 and going to 4:00. I don't know what the tube is below the thermostat, or if there is supposed to be a circlip in there, but this is the purpose of my post. Not much to go on, but does anyone know what this thing might be, and where it might have come from? ![]() |

Not me
I have no idea what it might be. Not even sure I know if I am looking at the correct 11-4 thing...
Is this it? ![]() Looks like the end of the fabrication piece

Casting flash, from when the aluminum case was cast around that steel tube.

You have identified the metal I am talking about. I removed it and it is a very thin semicircle like the remains of a washer that has worn away to almost nothing. It is about the thickness of a piece of paper.

Glad to hear it is not the issue I thought it might be.
I carefully plucked it out so I think I am good now. Many thanks. |
