Fiberglass rear bumper valance alignment

Hey folks-

I posted this over in the paint/bodywork forum a few months ago and wanted to float it to the members here. The car is an '82 SC with an aftermarket fiberglass rear bumper (manufacturer unknown). I am curious if I can somehow re-align the area where the bumper marries up to the flares. The bumper extends too far in this area on both sides. I have no fiberglass experience but was told a little heat may get some flexibility into the piece. Pictures are below and I apologize for orientation.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

That bumper was not fitted properly before painting. It needs to be sectioned and roughly an inch taken out of the center, fiberglass back together then body work and paint

Oldspool87- If you haven't seen Jimtweets work yet check it out. This guy does top notch work. He's obsessive. I have seen his cars in person. Of course the big problem will be the bumper will look better than the rest of the car so you will want him to fix the rest to match.

I know and admire Jim's work. Thing is this car is a bit of a track dog and perfection is a nicety not a must. The status quo just looks plain bad though. Additionally, the garage where I keep it is also a body shop and super convenient to me. If they can't do it reasonably, I might reach out to Jim. My wife and I used to live in Philly. We could make a weekend out of the drop off.

And there is always the do it yourself method. It isn't really that hard. It may not come out as perfect as Jim's but with a little time and patience you could do a reasonably nice job. Plus if it is a track dog you may need to learn how to fix somebody panels on your own.

Option #2...

Slide it back the 1/2 inch its off, and then push out the flares with force to match...

I have a fiberglass front on my 930... had to push the quarters out a bit to line up... no permanent damage or scars...

Thanks everyone. I'm planning to install a new muffler later this month and will try to tackle this then. Do these type of fiberglass parts typicall have hallmarks or other identification on them?
