powder coating window trim?

has anyone powder coated their front windshield trim?
I'm in the process of "blacking out" my car (yes, still to the local NW pelicanheads). I tried to rough up the trim and paint it with Wurth a few times, that simply didn't hold up.
any feedback helps. thx Kyle.

powder paint is brittle, and could break off when the trim is installed. it also tends to have a bit of an orange peel texture. did you price new trim. i don't think it's TOO pricey.

Why not anodize it black?

John, around 70 bucks per side for the front, so 150+ shipping.
Scott, Anodize it? Good idea. any idea on pricing? or where to get it done?

I'd check locally. Given your location, I think you could find many local anodizers.

Can the trims be anodized installed on the car (Hope this is not a stupid question)?

IMONBOOST, the trim is easily removed (on the front window). the doors and side window, not so easy.

No, they must be removed. Aluminium is placed in a bucket of acid for the anodizing process. An electric charge is run throught the aluminium, changing the nature of the surface of the material. This change makes the aluminium able to accept dye. The result is an attractive finish that resists corrosion.

Brian, (SoCal), Looks gorgeous. What was(is) the original finish on side windows? Is it paint, powdercoat, or what? TIA.

well, just an FYI, the wurth paint did a great job on the rest of my trim. the rain and pebbles on the roads of WA were enough to take the paint right off the front trim, the sides and rear are good though.
Kyle.

Why not just use the front windshield rubber from the C2? It does not use the window trim.

I had my side window trim pieces along with my Targa Top frame pieces powder coated and they are looking as good as new still, it's been about 7 years to date.
Hey Paul, can you elaborate a little more on the C2 trim..
what year C2 and what years will it fit? this is for the windscreen right?
is their any options for the rear?
BTW.. I'm going to be starting the Dust caps in about a week..

Thanks
Jorge (Targa Dude)

I replaced the trim version windsheild seal with the 964 trimless version. Installation was no more difficult than the trim type. Some say the trimless version is a little more difficult to get a good seal b/c the 964-993 front windshield is very slightly larger. But from what i have read, problerms occur with both types getting a good seal for one reason or another. The reported problems some have posted here and on Rennlist lead me to believe the big factor may not lie in the windshield size but the quality of the seal itself. I used the windshield seal from our host. Mine does not leak and looks good IMHO.

BTW, I still have a factory OEM trim type front windsheild seal (used 1 year) and black windshield trim if anyone is interested.

I kinda hate to say it, but the original finish on my car was chrome. (SCs - and I think most other 911s - came either with chrome plated steel or anodized aluminium).

I hate to say it because chrome trim on SC's is unusual on US cars (only on a few of the early cars, like mine). But, my chrome was in need of refinishing, and chrome was a lot more expensive than powdercoating. Plus, at the time, I liked black better - I think I'd probably prefer the more unusual chrome now.

I also figured that if I changed my mind, I could always get the powdercoated trim stripped and rechromed - so the black is essentially reversible.

So I have a 1970 coupe and I dislike my window trims and have to replace both windows and seals anyway, Can I use 964 windows and seals in my car ? and get away from the trim ?
