MFI micro switch inop
On a bench test can't get a continuity test light across bottom terminals regardless of push button position. Car was sitting 10 yrs and switch did had corrosion on the outside. Soaking it in elec contact cleaner brought no joy, so assuming it has gone to Pcar heaven. Can't see any way to disassemble.
New switch gave me sticker shock at over $100. (couldn't even find it listed on our host) Question is, has anybody found an alternative switch that could be made to work? Also is it normally open or closed? fitted to '70 2.2e (engine about ready to go back together, when machine shop ever gets done) |
I would think that any decent switch would work, but to withstand the elements in the engine bay, it would have to be a pretty robust switch. It's normally open (fuel shut off signal comes from the rpm transducer to this switch, switch closes when you let off the gas and the rack returns to closed position, which closes the switch, allowing signal to go to MFI pump solenoid). My switch works, but my RPM transducer is shot, but I have no problems with backfiring incidentally.

There are several sources for an exact replacement microswitch for under $20 that will bolt-up in the Dallas area, and the following thread has four different brands/models listed from Allied Electronics ... to give you a few choices:

Thanks, just the info I was hoping for. Did search but never found that post, also printed out your ''warning'' thread, will have to check that out also.
Thanks again. |
