Porsche 911 1985 Cylinders
hi Boys..
I have a Q...has anybody done this to theirs cylinders ? I have an option from one machine shop in Germany to cut a groove into a cylinders to use sealing o ring alu. made.Like it was in early 911`s.The alu.ring i was told is self made by this company. It is for 911 1985 Carrera with 80 000 miles. I do not know anything about this update so, if anyone would have an idea or done this i would appreciate any hints.? Do it or not?To be or not to be? thanx Ivan |

I've had that done to 1990/1991 cylinders. Trim the top from the outside in until the o-ring fits, and not too deep so you get some crush on the ring. Works fine

Hi Emcon..i was told by the German manufacturer that it prevent future oil leaks under the heads.
I personally never had a problem of oil leaking there. I am sure John will explain better..since i have never had it done to the engines i have built... Ivan |

I had a problem with leaks there on an 86. I did the mod you refer to and used CE rings like on an SC. Worked fine, but I now believe they are unnecessary.

I am having a hard time picturing where oil would come from that would leak there, and maybe I am missing something, but if you are leaking oil there, I would think you would have bigger problems than that ring would fix.
I guess if your rings were shot, allowing oil from the case above the pistons, or maybe horribly leaking valve guides, or a cracked head oil could leak there. Is there something else I am missing? Is there some other explanation for having enough oil in the combustion chamber to leak? |

Hi Emcon..sorry i have written is wrong..It keeps the pressure on cyl. so they do not leak under the cylinders..again the best is John to explain;-)
