I had the clutch cable replaced on my 83 SC and was told that there was not much adjustment left on the cable after installation. They told me that I should have the Transmission removed and clutch components checked for wear. The clutch seems to work fine with this new cable. It does not seem to be slipping. Anything I can check visually without removing trans.Need advice on what I should do.

the adjusting bolt between the long and short arms gets backed out a lot and the arms get pretty close together as the disc thins. also the pedal pressure is harder with a thin disc. if it doesn't slip up hills or between shifts, or chatter a lot, don't worry about it.

Speaking as a person who has rebuilt several clutches needlessly, I'd agree with John (again). Replace or adjust or lube all the stuff that's easy to get at, like cables. Don't even think about rebuilding a clutch unless you're having actual problems such as slipping or chattering. Even then, be sure to replace, lube or adjust everything you can before concluding that the engine and tranny must be removed.

Slippage in 4th or 5th gear trying to go up grades or when suddenly accelerating is the symptom of a worn-out clutch disk. It should not be ignored because each incident of slippage can cause heat-checking, wear grooves, or warp the flywheel, especially on a repeated, continuing basis!
