On the road again

I will start by saying compared to some of the work that goes on here, I am a desperate under-achiever. But for me, this is a milestone. Former club racer is officially back on the road after 20+ years. I am the third owner - This car was a birthday present from the wife to owner 2. He drove it for a bit and then had it modded into a club racer in the mid 90's. Has not been driven for past ~8-10 years. I am owner 3.

I am a slacker, so it has taken me 2 years to get her to this point. Mechanicals are all done - clean bill of health from mechanic. Interior is now liveable. Exterior needs work, but I am ok with that for now. Because it was a club racer, it will never be an original car - so I feel like that is a license to do as I please.

It is an 89 Anniversary car, 1 of 240, with 56,000 miles on it. It has zero rust. I replaced part of the suspension pan because of battery leak. Most of the special parts are long gone. It could be restored to original, or I could have some fun with it.

For now, I am happy to be able to drive it. Sometime in the next year I want to decide on where to go with the exterior. I don't want to do a back date long hood - I am leaning towards an impact bumper wide body R in the style of the newer 911 R - i.e. no tail.

I am open to opinions and options. For now it is fun not to be worried about stone chips, dirt etc. while driving a great car.

No - that is the E kill switch - a little of the racer heritage!

2 years isn't bad, I am still not on the road after about 5 or 6. haha. But to be fair to myself, I didn't have a lot of time to work on it. It's almost road worthy now. I even took it around the block a couple of times. I miss driving these cars.

Yours is looking great. Keep at it!

It sure is rewarding to get out and drive it after you work on them for awhile, congrats! Like the E-kill switch.

Widebody with no tail is my absolute favorite......if I ever get to the point to pull the trigger on a repaint, I would do it for sure.

Car looks great from what we can see. I just like those Silver Anniversary cars so much it's a little sad to see one moved away from the special edition. Still, it's your car to enjoy absolutely as you want. Great "bones" to start with. Have fun with it.

The car will always have an asterisks * beside it because of being a track car - back in the 90's they were not seen as collectible as they are now. It will always be a "story" car. Even if I restored it back to original, I will need to explain why I have track log books instead of a carfax. Not that I intend to sell.

On the plus side, I have some notable signatures in the logbooks, which is kind of cool too.

I know the feeling - just keep at it. My project is pretty boring compared to many here - but I am pumped about finally getting to drive it.

Beautiful looking car - please let us know if we can be of any assistance in getting it to its final look. I've attached our 911 DIY section in case you need to troubleshoot or a guide to any maintenance/fixes in the future. Looking forward to seeing the rest of this car's progression.
