Tire Rash on my door......
Out for an afternoon drive, woman next to me just started coming into my lane and her front right tire got into my driver side door. I'm sure she was on her cell and just not paying attention.
Good news is no dent. Bad news is I've got some serious tire rash on my door. ![]() I've used some WD40 and the black rubber came off but there's still some slight orange left from the tire. Any advise? Thanks

Bummer.
Get a quality detailer out and see what they can do with it. See if they can start slow cutting it. If it’s burned you may be in for paint. Such a great color! |

If it was my car I'd try using a little bit of regular paint thinner on a rag and gently rub the scar at one end to see if you can get the original color back. Do Not use a acetone based thinner. The clear coat is probably burned but maybe you can get some of the orange coloration off with thinner. If that works use a good quality wax to buff the door out. Good luck.

Yikes. I had something similar happen last year. Distracted driver cut across traffic (turned LEFT) and we had an actual glancing blow. My tire hit...their tire? They fled the scene. I was pissed. Anyways...
You want to use start as gentle as possible and get only as aggressive as you need. Try a bottle of this: https://www.amazon.com/Mothers-09224-Racing-Rubber-Remover/dp/B005R5WGCS I bet it works surprisingly well. If not, then you may need a mild polish. |

Thanks Locker......I'll pick some up. I agree that I don't want to get too aggressive as the car doesn't need a paint job yet.
Just by using some "elbow grease" it has already cleared up more. I'll keep at it. Thanks

Also......was completely amazed that there wasn't a dent. She hit my door hard and as I got out of the car I was prepared for the worst.

Race Rubber Remover i've used a lot from track days. it's fine on rubber dissolving it, but WD40 is basically the same effect which i've also used.
If you want to try by hand, you can get some mild polish on a microfiber towel and try to rub it by hand. Something like Meguiars ultimate polish is VERY mild and you will not damage the paint by hand. Next step would be a compound by hand or with a machine. |

spyerx.......what next step compound? I assume you mean a polishing compound and rather than use a drill or electric polishing devise, just do it by hand?
I really don't know much about this and just don't want to ruin the paint. Let me know

I had similar on a white car years ago , I used zymol polish/wax .
On some small sections I had to use a harsher cutting compound , but I a;so had no burn through just a little heat . I think I got the zymol at pep-boys , maybe orielies . ![]() |

Is that the one in the maroon spray bottle in the “cleaning tote” in the background ??
They’re for use with my clay bar , was was reluctant to recommend clay bar process as I’ve never used it on damaged paint . |

I just went back into the garage to have another look .
No mean feat considering the amount of stuff on the floor right now ![]() There was a couple of meguire products in there , and a rougher compound that I got to use on my nieghbours truck . I’d be reluctant to recommend that either , as like the clay bar it could leave more damage to paint , and I don’t want to be responsible for that . Hence my recommendation of the zymol as it’s very gentle IMO . I’m about 2 miles from www.detailing.com , so if it was my car I’d drive and let them guys have a look and sell me a product to fix if possible . ![]() ![]() |

In general, from least/no abrasive to more:
Wax Glaze Cleaner wax Polish Compound Using a soft microfiber you’ll be hard pressed to damage anything by hand. Anything meguiars consumer level is gentle in Red or black bottles. The stuff in tan brown bottles is their professional stuff. Those compounds can be very aggressive. When using a machine you have different softness foam and microfiber pads. Best bet is start with least abrasive and work way to more abrasive. |

watch AMMO remove tire rubber. It works wonders. a little bit of heat (car in the sun is sufficient) and a paint sealer. I was amazed how quickly and easily all of the track rubber comes off.

I'm with Ted on this one. Try something to dissolve it first.
I wouldn't get into it with polishes and cutting compounds. You may find by the time you have removed the black and the scratches there isn't much paint left. Heavens forbid... You may need to see a painter/detailer to get this removed. |
